    Mrs. Catherine Graff of Granville passed away at her home Monday, September 29 after and illness of two months.

    Funeral services will be held Thurdsay, October 2, at St. Joseph's Church in Granville. Solemn Requiem Mass will be sung by Rev. J. J. Dalhoff, with Msgr. Schemmel of Remsen acting as Deacon and Father Sylvester Grady of Schaller asSubdeacon. Father Clemons Knobbe will be Master of Ceremonies. Bearers will be Adolph Fischer, Arnold Nemmers, Anton Hunt, Frank Beckman, Jerome Grady and Joseph Blatt. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Granville.

    Mrs. Graff had lived in the Granville area most of her life, coming there as a child. Her parents were Henry Bunkers and Barbara Youngbluth Bunkers. She was born October 10, 1879, in Iowa and passed away at the age of 61 years, 11months and 19 days. On February 20, 1900, she was married to John w. Graff by Father Stromberg, the ceremony taking place at Granville. Mr. Graff preceded her in death on April 5, 1925. One daughter Geraldine died on December 8, 1923.

    Surviving are four sons and five daughters: Joseph of Spirit Lake, Barbara (Mrs. J. S. Jacobs) of Granville, Florence (Mrs. A. J. Miller) of Granville, Milo of Granville, Gertrude (Mrs. R. B. Schilmoeller) of Granville, Magnus ofHospers, Bernice (Mrs. E. J. O'Herron) of Storm Lake, Otto of Granville and Charlotte (Mrs. Bert Ballard) of Granville; her mother, Mrs. Barbara Bunkers of Granville, three brothers: John Bunkers of Garretson, S.D., Anton Bunkers ofMadison, Minn., and Emil Bunkers of Dell Rapids, S.D.; two sisters: Mrs. Joseph Bachman of Granville and Edmunda Bunkers of Des Moines; also 21 grandchildren.

    Mrs. Graff was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of the Catholic Church and was a woman held in the highest esteem by all.

    Funeral services for Joseph H. Graff, of Montgomery, Ia., were held Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1981, 10:30 a.m., in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. N.J. Becker officiating. Graff died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1981 at the Dickinson CountyMemorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

    Pallbearers were Jim Kuiper, Daryl Newbrough, Marvin Spieker, Elton Frost, Les Vetter and Joe Baughman. Interment was in St. Margaret's Cemetery, in Spirit Lake.

    Joseph H. Graff was born to John William Graff at Granville, Ia., on Dec. 17, 1900. He attended school at Granville, Ia.

    On Feb. 3, 1926, he married Genevieve K. Ricker at Hope, N.D. and to this union seven children were born. Graff farmed at Granville, Ia., from 1926 to 1839 and then moved to the farm eight miles west of Spirit Lake in 1939 where hefarmed until retirement in 1967. After 1967, he resided in Montgomery, Ia.

    Graff was a member of St. mary's Catholic Church. He was interested in soil conversation and served as a commissioner in the program during the 1950s and was also an active member of the Izaak Walton League. Other interests includedfishing and woodworking.

    Survivors include his wife, Lucy, of Montgomery; three daughters, Mrs. James Baugman (Pauline), of Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. James Umbarger (Marlene), of Tulsa, Okla.; and Mrs. James (Geraldine) Long, of Spirit Lake; one son, Dennis Graff, ofSpencer; 14 grandchildren, one brother Otto of Cedar Rapids, five sisters, Barb, Jacobs, Florence Miller, charlotte Ballard, Gertrude Schilmoeller and Bernice Hassmaann.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; son, quentin and two infants Evelyn and John; two brothers, Mac and Milo and one sister, Geraldine, infant.

    The Donovan-Leyson Funeral Home of Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.

    Granville, Iowa--Mrs. A. J. (Florence) Miller, 90, of Granville died Wednesday, June 12, 1996, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.

    Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville with the Rev. James Tigges of Alton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5 p.m. by St. Joseph's Guild and Christian Mothers and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

    Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 19, 1905, in rural Granville, the daughter of John and Catherine (Bunkers) Graff. She was raised and educated in the Granville area.

    She married Dr. A. J. Miller Oct. 4, 1926 in Granville. The couple made their home in Granville. He died June 10, 1983.

    Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Church Guild, Christian Mothers and the Senior Citizens.

    Survivors include a daughter Gwen and her husband, Marcel Schuver of Granville; a son, Thjoms and wife, Kathleen Miller of Crookston, Minn., 10 grandchildren; 17 great-granchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Hassmann of WarnerRobins, Ga.; a brother-in-law, James Jacobs of Granville; and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Beverly Schuver in infancy and Ellen marie Schuver; four sisters, Mrs. James (Barbara) Jacobs, Mrs. Ray (Gertrude) Schilmoeller, Mrs. Bert (Charlotte) Ballard and Geraldine in childhood andfour brothers, Joseph, Milo, Magnus and Otto Graff.

    Pallbearers will be Anthony, Douglas, James, John and marcel Jr Schuver, and Andrew Miller.

    Obituary: Trudy Schilmoeller

    Trudy (Gertrude) M. Schilmoeller of rural Algona, formerly of Granville, died Tuesday, July 19 at Mason City after a short illiness of cancer.

    The funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Ben Jensen on Friday in St. Cecelia's Catholic Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with the Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Service in charge.

    Trudy Graff, daughter of John and Catherine Bunkers Graff, was born in Granville on Oct. 14, 1909. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy iin Alton and attended business school in Sioux City. She worked for an attorney in OrangeCity.

    Trudy was married to Raymond Schilmoeller at Granville on Jan. 18, 1932. The Schilmoellers farmed for a time in the Granville area and in the spring of 1943 they moved to Algona where they also farmed. Mrs. Schilmoeller worked 17 yearsfor Hutzell's School and Office Supply in Algona, retiring in 1972.

    She was a member of St. Cecelia's Church, C.D. of A., the Legion of Mary, Kossuth County Hospital Auxiliary and active in the Algona Senior Citizens for which she was a trustee of the Center.

    She is survived by her husband, Ray and four children; Cordell of Atlanta, Ga., Carol (Mrs. George) Hemmen of Algona, Cecil of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Lloyd of Algona; 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a brother Otto Graff ofCedar Rapids, and two sisters, Florence Miller of Granville and Bernice Hassmann of Warner Robins, Ga.

    She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

    Obituary: Mac Graff Rites Held on Monday at St. Joseph's

    Dies Sunday at Fort Worth, Texas; body returned here for funeral.

    The family of Magnus "Mac" Graff was shocked and saddened Thursday afternoon when a telephone message from Fort Worth, Texas told of his death the previous Sunday, September 11, of Mr. Graff in that city. Mr. Graff had gone to Fort Worthrecently for a two week vacation in hope that the climate might improve his health. He had talked by phone to his family in Milford Saturday evening before his death. Cause of death is unknown, and the only detail which the family hasto date is that he died suddenly, while in an ambulance enroute to a hospital. A.A. Leyson and Stanley Fuller flew to Fort Worth and returned the body here.

    Funeral services and requiem high mass were conducted by Father James Greteman from St. Joseph's church, Monday morning, Sept. 19. Father Skahill of Spirit Lake served as Deacon and Father Kinney of the LaSalette Seminary as Sub Deacon.Interment was made in St. Anthony's Cemetery at Hospers, where Father Thoenessen conducted graveside services. Casket bearers were Ron Kelley, John Marchand, Francis Froelich, William Schwaller, Bill Berning and Ralph Doud.

    Magnus Theodorej Graff, the sone of John and Catherine Graff, was born April 20, 1911, at Granville, Iowa and died Sunday Sept. 11, 1949, at the age of 38 years. He was graduated from St. Joseph's parochial school at Granville, and onDec. 28, 1938, was married to Irene Jungers of Hospers. They became the parents of three sons, Russell 9, Lyle 8, and Ricky 5. In 1943 Mr. and Mrs. Graff and sons moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, and in 1946 to a farm near Milford.Last fall the family constructed a new home across from St. Joseph's Church in Milford, and moved to town. The deceased was a member of St. Joseph Church. Mr. Graff owned and operated a tap room in Milford at the time of his death.

    His mother and father and one sister preceded him in death. Survivors besides the widow and sons include three brothers, Ott of Milford, J.H. of Lake Park, and Milo of Granville; and five sisters, Mrs. James Jacobs, Mrs. A. J.     Otto Amborse Graff, 76, of 2122 Cottage Grove Meadows SE, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1993, in St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Granville, by the Rev. Clem Currans. Burial:St. Joseph Cemetery, Granville. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where rosaries will be recited at 5 and 8, and a Scripture wake service begins at 7:30.

    Survivors include two sons, Gary and his wife, Linda, of Alameda, Calif., and Jim and his wife, Linda of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Florence Miller of Granville and Bernice Hassman of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

    In addition, Mr. Graff leaves many friends in the Cedar Rapids area. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Carlyn; their infant son, Joseph; and seven brothers and sisters.

    Mr. Graff was born April 26, 1917, on a farm near Granville, the eight child of John and Catherine Bunkers Graff. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Alton, in 1935, and he married Carlyn Doud of Oyens on June 10, 1940. The couplebought a farm near Milford and they resided there for seven years before moving to town, where Mr. Graff worked as a carpenter for many years. While in Milford, Mr. Graff was active in Knights of Columbus, Youth Baseball Program, St.Joseph's Church and other community activities. He also served on the City Council for three years.

    In 1966, the couple moved to Cedar Rapids where Mr. Graff was again involved in the construction business. From 1971 until he retired in 1982, Mr. Graff was employed in the maintenance department of St. Luke's Hospital. In 1990, he andMrs. Graff celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in California with their sons and families.

    He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

    Obituary of Quentin Graff

    Last rites for Quentin Graff were held last Friday morning at the St. Mary's Catholic Church at Spirit Lake, with Rev. Fr. Vincent Beacom, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Margaret's Cemetery at Spirit Lake.

    Quentin William Graff was born August 7, 1927, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Graff living southeast of Lake Park. He was born at Granville, Iowa, and moved to this community with his parents. He helped on his parents farm until 1952 whenhe attended a school of comptometry and in 1953 took a position as bookkeeper and cost clerk with the Rhode Transfer Co., in chicago. He was with that firm until February of this year when failing health forced him to give up work and heand his wife moved to Spirit Lake.

    Quentin was married Nov. 13, 1954 to Gwendolyn Kreisel of Lake Park.

    Quentin went to the University Hospital at Iowa City where on Oct. 30 he underwent major surgery. He seemed well on the road to recovery when he passed away unexpectedly about 8 o'clock Monday evening, Nov. 5. The cause of death was acoronary thrombosis. He was 29 years 2 months and 8 days of age at the time of his demise.

    Pall bearers were: Everett Roetman, Richard Maranell, Darrell Newbrough, Charles Maranell, Ernest Gath, and Lynn Wallace.

    Special music was furnished by the church choir.

    Surviving his untimely death are: His wife Gwendolyn; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Graff; and three sisters and a brother: Mrs. James Baughman of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. James Umbarger of San Antonio, Texas, and Geraldine Graff and DennisGraff, both at home.

    Quentin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spirit Lake.

    Mass servers were DeWayne Thompson and Steven Gentry of Spirit Lake and Gary and Jimmy Graff of Milford.

    The dinner was furnished and served by the ladies of St. Maria's Circle of Lake Park with the assistance of the Rosary Society of Spirit Lake.

    Many relatives and friends from a distane aumented the large crowd who paid their last respects to this young man who earned he high esteem of all who knew him. Many floral tributes and spiritual bouquets further attested to the regardin which he was held.

    Paullina Man Killed in Car Crash

    Le Mars, Iowa -- Special:

    John Edward Graff, 31, of Paullina, Iowa, was killed, apparently early Sunday, when the car he was driving went out of control and crashed as it approached a curve on a country gravel road a fourth of a mile north of the Le Mars citypark.

    The auto wreckage was found at 7:30 a.m. Sunday by two members of the LeMars Police Department.

    Mr. Graff, who was driving north, apparently was thrown from the car in the accident, officers said. The automobile land on him, pinning him beneath it.

    The Plymouth County medial examiner said the mishap probably occurred between midnight Saturday and 7 a.m. sunday.

    Investigating officers were Plymouth County Sheriff James Mertes and Iowa Highway Patrolman Richard Helmers of LeMars.

    Mr. Graff was attending Northwestern College at Orance City, Iowa, and he was employed as a part-time bus driver for the Maurice-Orange City Consolidated School.

    Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Graff of Granville; four sisters, Mrs. Don Schiltz of Remsen, Iowa, Mrs. Gene Heying of Granville, Mrs. Ted DeVries of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Miss Julie Graff of Spencer, Iowa; and fivebrothers, Ken of Lake City, Iowa, Douglas of Omaha, Bruce of Des Moines, Gene, a student at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, and Milo Jr., at home.

    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Granville. The Rev. N.J. Becker will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    The Rosary will be said at 5, 8, 8:30, and 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at Spalding Hall at Granville.

    Two men who grew up together at Granville, Iowa, attended the same school and eventually moved to Omaha died over the weekend in a snowmobile accident.

    They were Douglas Graff, 32 and Robert Meis, 31. No one knows exactly what happened, as both had driven the snowmobile in the field where they died on the southwestern out-skirts of Omaha.

    The Douglas County Sheriff's office said the snowmobile plunged into a 75-foot ravine Friday night.

    Deputies said the two men neither of whom was wearing a helmet, suffered massive head injuries. The two apparently were thrown from the snowmobile.

    Graff was an insurance claims examiner and leaves a widow and three small children. Meis was an auto body painter and leave his widow.

    (It should be noted that these two men were brother-in-laws, as well. Doug was married to JoAnn Heitmann and Robert was married to Janice Heitmann. A service for both men, was held Dec. 24 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Granville,Iowa.)
